Beginner's Guide

Mafia is a social deduction game where players are secretly assigned roles at the start of the game. The Innocent players must work together to identify and vote out the Mafia, while the Mafia tries to eliminate the Innocent players without getting caught. Some Neutral roles have their own win conditions entirely.

Each round alternates between Night — where each player can use their role's abilities — and Day — where all players meet up, discuss and votes who they believe the Mafia is. The game ends when one side is eliminated, or a special win condition is met.

1. At the start of the game, you will be assigned a role, this could be either a good role, bad role or neutral role.
2. During the Night, roles with special abilities will act in complete secrecy. If you're a Civilian, or another role with no ability, find a safe place to hide, or stay out in the open and remain seen by the other players. Watch for suspicious activity.
3. When Daytime returns, a kill may or may not be announced. Pay attention to what everyone says — and what they don't say. A helpful tip is to remember who the players in your server are and keep a note of how, and why, they were cleared. For example, if you see a player drop a banana, they are a sabateur.
4. During the Voting phase, all players vote to eliminate a suspect. Majority rules. This is the only way a player can be elimited during the day, with the exception of a kill by the Vigilante.
5. The cycle repeats until a team wins. Stay observant and trust your instincts.

Closets — You can hide in closets during the night to stay safe from the Mafia. But don't hide for too long, or your location will be revealed to those you are hiding from.

Clues — Players leave footprints and handprints when they move at night. The Detective role can use these to track the Mafia's movements and gather evidence.

Voting — During the Day, you can vote for who you think is Mafia. The player with the most votes gets eliminated. Choose wisely — wrong votes help the Mafia win.

Perks — You can equip perks before a game starts to gain extra advantages. These can give you an edge no matter what role you're assigned.

Punishments — If you are lucky enough to become part of the Mafia, you have 2 nights maximum to secure a kill. If there are 2 nights without any bodies, a random member of the Mafia team will be eliminated by default.

1. Pay attention to who is where during the night. Movement patterns reveal a lot about someone's role.
2. Don't reveal your role too early — the Mafia will target key roles like the Doctor first.
3. Watch for inconsistencies. If someone's story doesn't add up, call it out during the Day phase. Pay attention to what roles people claim and if it is the same a few nights down the line.
4. If you're Mafia, act like a Civilian. Ask questions, participate in votes, and avoid drawing suspicion, even if it means throwing a team member under the bus.
5. Coordinate with other Innocents. Sharing information is the fastest way to catch the Mafia.

Staying silent — Being too quiet makes you look suspicious or useless to the town. Even Civilians should contribute to the discussion.

Revealing your role immediately — Unless you have a good strategic reason, announcing your role makes you a target for the Mafia.

Voting randomly — Every vote counts. Random votes can accidentally eliminate an Innocent and give the Mafia an advantage. The ability to skip a vote is always there for you.

Ignoring evidence — Alibis, clears and behaviour patterns are your best tools. Use them.
